UNIT 6
WRITING
This is another
important skill but in this case this is a productive skill. It means that while a person is writing he or
she is producing rather than receiving. The purpose of writing is communicating
something to someone through a paper in most of the cases. However, people is
writing all the time it does not matter if the person is studying or not, may
be our mother is making a list of things she has to buy at the supermarket in
this moment or a boyfriend is writing a text message to his girlfriend, etc.,
it means that people use different text types and different characteristics like for example key
words, simple sentences, long or short sentences, etc. we can also write with
different formality
and layouts.
The same as in
reading, in writing we also have the following subskills which is some of them are engaged
with accuracy: spelling
correctly, forming letters correctly, joining letters correctly, writing
legibly, punctuating correctly, using correct layouts, choosing the right
vocabulary, using grammar correctly, using sentences correctly, using paragraphs. Besides
that, it is important to use an appropriate style and register. Another important fact is that for
writing we have the following stages: drafting, editing,
proofreading and re-drafting. To encourage writing my students I would
like to ask them to write about relevant for them and later teach the
strategies to write correctly, I think that is going to work since they are
going to be motivated.
